Kupwara is a district in Kashmir located just next to the Pakistan border. It is 118 km away from Wayil, and takes 3 and a half hours to drive there, and nearly 5 hours for someone to travel by bus to the Hope Disability Centre in Wayil. This is too difficult for persons with disabilities to come regularly for treatment, so it has been a dream for a long time to have a permanant disability centre located in Kupwara.
The dream is starting to come true. The community leaders in Handwara village in the Kupwara district have seen how beneficial it has been to have the Hope Disability Centre physiotherapists come and assist the disabled in the district. So they have offered land for free for the building of a permanent centre, so that all the residents of Kupwara district with disabilities can get help. Here is a photo of new building opned for scervices at Kupwar near IIT Handwara Mupwara..
And the NGO A Leg To Stand On, based in New York, USA, has generously donated funds to construct a building on the land. Kupwara is rich in crafts too and society is having so many craft womens enegaged with kashmir art.
Facilities like rehabilatation /assessment for disabled/Skill development/Voccational training in trades like sozni/shawl/jute/tailoring etc will be available at this centre,
